The Employee Retention Tax Credit (ERTC) program launched with the CARES Act in March 2020 and was then modified and extended as part of the Taxpayer Certainty and Disaster Relief Act in December, 2020. The Employee Retention Credit is a fully refundable payroll tax credit for employers equal to 50 percent (or 70 percent) of qualified wages (up to a $10,000 cap) that Eligible Employers pay their employees.
